Komet Sale Alert — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 October 2026
Komet Sale Alert ("Komet", "the app") is operated by Ecom Applications Pty Ltd, Western Australia ("we", "us"). Komet tells you when brands you follow start a sale and when items on your wishlist drop in price. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and how to delete it. It covers the app, our website (kometapp.com) and our emails. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
The short version
- There are no accounts. The app never asks for your name, phone number, contacts, photos or precise location. You can give it an email address if you want alerts by email — that is optional, and you can remove it at any time.
- We store what you follow and how you use the app against a random ID created for your phone.
- The app contains Meta's (Facebook's) advertising software so we can tell which ads bring people to Komet. That is a form of tracking, and iOS asks your permission for the part that identifies you.
- You can erase everything we hold about your phone from inside the app, at any time.
What the app collects
- A random device ID and your push-notification token. Created when you first open the app, so we know which phone to send alerts to. The ID is kept in your phone's Keychain so your follows survive deleting and reinstalling the app.
- What you follow and save. Brands and items you follow, your wishlists and their names, the sizes you tell us you wear, items you skip in Discover, and your price-drop alert setting.
- How you use the app. The days you open it; the stores, items and sale alerts you open; and your taps out to a retailer's site. We use this to rank what is popular, recommend brands and items, measure whether alerts are useful, and work out our own performance.
- Basic phone details. Phone model, app version, time zone (so alerts arrive in your daytime) and whether notifications are switched on.
- Your email address, if you give it. Under ? → Email alerts you can enter an address and choose what it is for: sale alerts (a daily digest at 7 pm your time and price-drop emails as they happen) and/or Komet's own emails (tips, top sales and giveaways). The app may ask you once whether you want this; saying no or skipping means no email is stored. Alert emails are sent from our own mailbox; Komet's emails are sent with Mailchimp, which receives your address only if you chose them. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and Remove my address in the app deletes it from our servers and from Mailchimp.
- Links you share to Komet. If you use the iOS share sheet to send Komet a product page, we store that web address.
- Technical logs. Our hosting providers briefly log standard request data such as IP addresses for security and reliability. We do not use IP addresses to identify you.
If you create a share link for a wishlist, anyone with that link can see the items on that list (not who you are). You can switch a share link off in the app.
Advertising and tracking (Meta)
The app includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK. It sends Meta "app events" — that the app was installed or opened, and actions such as following a brand, saving an item, viewing an item or tapping through to a store, with the item or brand reference and price. We never send Meta your search text, your device ID from our system, or any name, email or phone number (the app does not have them).
- If you tap Allow on the iOS tracking prompt, Meta also receives your phone's advertising identifier and may link these events with other information it holds about you, to measure our ads and show more relevant ones.
- If you choose Ask App Not to Track, the advertising identifier is never read, and events are sent flagged so that Meta must not use them to track you. Apple's privacy-preserving install measurement (SKAdNetwork / AdAttributionKit) may still tell us, in aggregate, that an ad led to an install.
You can change your choice any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Our website and emails
- Waitlist and newsletter. If you give us your email address on kometapp.com or through a sign-up form on social media, we use it to email you about Komet (launch news, features, sales and giveaways). Emails are sent with Mailchimp. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Finding similar audiences. We may upload a scrambled (hashed) copy of our email list to Meta so that Meta can show Komet ads to people with similar interests ("lookalike audiences"). Meta is not permitted to use the list for anything else. To be left out, email us and we will remove your address from any such list.
- Website analytics. kometapp.com uses the Meta Pixel to measure visits and taps through to the App Store from our ads.
Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the providers that run Komet for us: Supabase (our database, hosted in Sydney), Vercel (our web pages), Apple (delivering push notifications and App Store analytics), Meta Platforms (advertising measurement, as described above) and Intuit Mailchimp (email). Some of these providers process data outside Australia, mainly in the United States. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Detailed activity records (opens, views, taps, alert deliveries) are deleted after 180 days. We keep daily totals that do not identify any phone.
- What you follow is kept while you use Komet. If Apple tells us the app has been removed from your phone, your record is deleted after 30 days. If notifications are off and you have not opened Komet for a year, your record is deleted too.
- Email addresses are kept until you remove them in the app, unsubscribe from everything, delete your data, or ask us. Alert emails you were sent are kept for 180 days with the other activity records.
Deleting your data and your other rights
In the app: open Explore, tap the ? at the top right, then Delete my data. This immediately erases everything we hold about your phone. Simply uninstalling the app does not do this by itself straight away, so use the button first if you want your data gone now.
By email: write to hello@kometapp.com to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to be removed from our email or advertising lists, or to make a complaint. We will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). If you are in the EU, UK or California you have equivalent rights under your local law and can use the same address.
Children
Komet is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest with our providers, and access to our systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach is likely to cause serious harm we will notify affected people and the regulator as the law requires.
Changes
We will update this page when what we do changes, and change the date at the top.
